If you meet Jim, you may be surprised that this man, in all his humor, could be serious enough for long enough to focus on the detail required to construct perfect replicas to scale. This is where one begins to understand that the art is already inside the artist.
How is it that standing near a towering lighthouse can stir the same feelings as viewing a majestic cathedral? Both these structures touch the depth of one's being. Perhaps we hold lighthouses dear for the lives they have saved, and perhaps also for the lives they could not save.
There are less than 700 active lighthouses in the United States today. Unfortunately, time has claimed a large part of our past and modern methods of navigation have largely replaced the need for these structures. Today, many of the remaining lighthouses are either privately owned, protected as historic landmarks, or unfortunately facing their demise.
On the following pages you will find scale replicas of these lighthouses. Each lighthouse is created to be as identical as possible to the original, using the same materials used when the full size lighthouse was built. Each stone, brick, and block is individually made to replicate a perfect "museum quality" representation of the historic structure. |
